Jonathon is a determined volunteer who has inspired many people to participate in sport irrespective of their ability or age. Although only 16 years-old he has volunteered for four years, completing over 412 hours in the last two-years alone. At a time when many young people are interested in games consoles and engaging in social media, Jonathon is drumming up interest in getting people active.
The list of Jonathan’s volunteering activities is extensive. A keen tennis player himself, he single-handedly organises a weekly tennis club at Rhyl High School, has led six tennis festivals at the school and Rhyl Tennis Club and impressively delivered a wheelchair tennis session for Rhyl Raptors Basketball Team. He has also supported Great British Tennis Weekends, summer camps, and a disability tennis day in Wrexham.
To raise funds for Comic Relief Jonathon organised and undertook a 12-hour tennis marathon which raised an incredible £1650. He was inspired by Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing who had participated in a similar event. He started the gruelling marathon at 5.45am.
He has been responsible for many people trying the sport for the first time. He is a confident, competent and patient tutor helping people with varying experience to have a sociable and fun experience whilst being active and getting fitter. Jonathon is always thinking ahead to his next challenge, trying to make a difference to his wider community. He has created many opportunities for people in the community to come together.
